The Story of Ashok
Ashok is a real heartbreaker: everyone loves him and he calls our personnel members “aamaa” and “baa” (mom and dad). His parents are raised in Jorpati which means they are used to city life. In comparison with the parents who come from remote areas of the country, they are quite open-minded. During parents’ meetings, they are always very cooperative and clearly show their involvement. This is a good example for the others and very positive for our personnel; more engagement of the families means more achievements in the awareness program.

Ashok

Ashok’s father works long hours in the carpet factory for little pay. On the long term it will also affect his health: workers’ eyesight are damaged because of performing intricate work in very poor light and lung diseases are common as a result of the dust and fluff from the wool used in the carpets. But it is the only job he could find, and he works six days a week without complaining. Ashok’s mother is a cleaning lady in the orthopedic hospital of Jorpati and her salary is also quite low. Since they have four children, they can only afford to send them to government schools. Ashok is the youngest one and merely three, but had to stay home alone during the day. Now he attends the Child ‘N Family center and is been looked after the whole time till his parents come to pick him up in the evening.
