The Story of Deepika
Deepika  is a teenage girl from the mid west of Nepal. She comes from a family with eight children who mostly live of farming. But with this main source of income, they can not feed the family the whole year round. That is why her father has to do labor work away from home about four months a year.

Deepika

Deepika’s hip was dislocated by an accident when she was twelve years old. After her final treatment at HRDC - a children’s hospital in Banepa - her one leg is shorter than the other, but she is able to walk without support most of the time.
When Deepika was admitted to the vocational training in our center, she was very happy. She now gets the opportunity to do something good for her life in the near future. The training and guidance from our staff have contributed to her getting more self confidence.

When she thinks about her life in the past and her life in the present, she sees a huge change. Deepika has the feeling a dream will come true. She wants to start a small tailoring shop in her home village and se now feels it is a real possibility! With the income of her shop, she will be able to contribute to her family. And hopefully that means her father can be with his wife and children the whole year through.
