The Story of Dixa
Dixa is 4 years old and lives in Jorpati with her elder brother (8 years) and their mother. They originally come from the Sindhupalchowk District, north-east of Kathmandu. This area suffered a lot during the ten year Maoist insurgency period; the family of Dixa was affected in a very personal way, when her father died in cross fire.

Dixa

It was very hard for Dixa’s mum to continue her life as a single mother and earn enough money to raise her two children. She decided to migrate to the capital, hoping to find work and a better future for her boy and girl. As a cleaning lady, she brings in just enough money to survive. Her son goes to a state primary school, but she couldn’t afford to send Dixa to a kindergarten. Her children were also quite weak, because she couldn’t offer them enough to eat.

So, when she heard about the Child ‘N Family education center, she immediately filled in the application form and her little girl was accepted among the first 30 kids. Dixa no longer wonders in the streets of her poor neighbourhood, but happily comes to the daycare center. According to her teacher Bandana she is extremely eager to learn and she enjoys playing with her new friends. She also has an increased appetite, loves the nutritious food and her health already improved a lot.
