The Story of Yangani
When Yangani was 14 years old, she fell out of a tree and badly hurt her back. She suffered spinal injury and got paralyzed below the waist. Her parents were desperate and did not really know how to deal with the situations. It was as if their world fell apart and they did not see any possibilities for the future of their disabled daughter.

At that time, Helma of DCF was volunteering in the children’s hospital HRDC, where Yangani received her medical treatment. Helma convinced the parents that the girl was not worth less than anybody else and deserved a chance; that is how Yangani ended up in our center in Kathmandu. We offered her psychological guidance and gave her the possibility to continue her studies. The girl showed great spirit and at the moment she is finishing higher secondary school.

She has a very assertive and forceful personality and thanks to her positive attitude, her parents accept her again. Yangani regularly visits her home town, to spend time with her relatives and celebrate festivals and public holidays.

Together with her family, our local personnel has found a university with wheelchair access, where Yangani is continuing her studies. Her father is teacher English and does have the economic prospects to partly support his daughter's studies - the remaining part is paid for by one of our sponsors.
